Let's talk about inquiries and bookings: When we sit down to talk about deep design ideas and look at your inspiration images, our ideal start time is 7 months BEFORE your wedding day. It gives us flexibility for our creative process and the ability to collaborate on a schedule that has some breathing room (if we need it). Can we design something fabulous in 4 months? Yes, but there is pressure on so many things for us: 1. Sketching (unpacking your ideas and inspo) 2. Proofing (it is a shorter rush for us) 3. Ordering (and shipping from our vendor) 4. Production (addressing, inventory etc.)
Honestly, a shorter design window adds more stress right before your wedding on you - the thing we help to avoid if timelines are on track. When the design window is shorter, we don’t have the luxury of waiting. We need to speed up your email returns, possibly adding a fee to rush packages and the list goes on and on. It adds the feeling of pressure in the window of wedding planning that we think most couples would love to avoid.
So here are are a few tips from us to help keep the process moving:
FIRST: don’t sleep on booking your stationer. For us, we require a 35% non-refundable retainer to hold your spot. That means when you book with us a year out or nine months out we have you on the calendar to set up a day of branding call seven months before your wedding day. We will jump right into this process without you having to worry when and if its time.
SECOND: start gathering your inspiration ahead of time. Maybe it's an invitation suite you love, but it could be bathroom tiles, a tablescape or a seaside town. We draw inspiration from textures, colors and mood. The goal is to capture the “feeling” rather than the visual. You want to feel a certain day on your wedding so our invitations and signage is all about that essence.
THIRD: start collecting your addresses in a spreadsheet. We provide the spreadsheet to all of our couples with formatting as soon as you book. This spreadsheet can be used for invitations, showers, thank you and eventually holiday cards - we still use ours and just keep updating it as time goes on.
FOURTH: talk about what your likes and dislikes are in an invitation suite. We hear it all the time from our couples that they can’t pinpoint what they like but they know what they don’t like. This is helpful for us.
FINALLY: be open and honest. This is YOUR day. While designing and creating is our favorite thing we are doing it to help you and make your day one to remember. The beautiful pieces we make are for our couples and if something doesn’t feel right or you want more or different - don’t feel scared to speak up. We want to get it right and that back and forth process with you helps to do so. We want you to LOVE it now, then and looking back on your anniversaries.
