Everyday for the past summer, I get up before the household, feed the dog, take my mile walk with him and listen to podcasts that both ground, fulfill and expand me. So many of the podcasts are soul oriented and have a trajectory of slowing down enough to listen to the inner knowing of yourself.It has had me thinking about how this world is both rapidly changing but the rapidness is something so many of us are fighting against. Things are moving too fast. Too fast to keep up, too fast to process, too fast to even face at times. It feels like you are driving 100 mph down a high way trying to read the billboards that are flying past you. Your head starts spinning, you get a little dizzy, a headache and then you just need to lay down to recover. Social media has been feeling like this lately. Too hard to keep up, too fast to even participate and it makes you want to quit before you even start.If you’re ready for some authentic design and creative content, join our corner of the world.
We find it odd that social media requires you to “create” and “make” in order to show what you ACTUALLY create and make. A little inner voice has said - enough. Stop doing it the way that is expected. Start showing up the way you do in life everyday - as designers, artists, mothers, entrepreneurs, teachers and women trying to figure out her place in the world today. It feels like after 10 years we should know better, but sometimes we get swept away by the doing that we forget to really think about what matters to us.
We spend so much time coaching our couples to stick to their roots, following their inspiration, mood and vibe. Breathe their personality into their design of their wedding branding. We are GOOD at doing that for others, and suddenly my ah ha moment made me realize, we need more of this in how and where we show up.
We always say - “there is a right way to do it, but we say break the rules and do you.” So here we go, we are going to ignore the “right way” to do it and we are going to break the rules. We are going to show up when and how we feel like it. We are going to show you the realness of what we do in order to produce the stuff you see. Sure, we will still show the pretty invitations, the beautiful day of signage, but there is so much more that goes into that final product. There is heart, creativity, grit, frustration, thinking, analyzing, inspiration, collaboration - all the things that make the final product so much more meaningful for us.
It brings us so much joy to produce beautiful things and inspire others. We know that the journey is in the process and that makes it so much more rewarding. We want to keep showing up and being honest to who we are everyday. Thanks for coming along for the ride.
FIRST UP:
mood boarding. Mood boarding is something we do to get inspiration for dseigning our couple’s sketches. We unpack their vision, dive into magazines and tear and pull the feelings, colors, textures that they want to FEEL on the day. The idea of a mood board is to give you a feeling or in a sense a “mood” for the day.
Interestingly, mood board actually light me up. For as long as I can remember as a little girl, I would create collages, decoupage (**the art of decorating an object by gluing paper cutouts onto a surface and sealing them with layers of varnish or a medium like Mod Podge until the design looks smooth) my notebooks and frames. I did this as a hobby, but I realize I did this as a form of self regulation. Doing this mood boards actually HELPS my mood - who knew!?!? So now, I do it for the fun of it.
This month - August my mood board feels bright, hopeful and collective. There is joy in it but a also a sense of femininity. The mauvey pinks and the pops of color bring some life into the contrast of darker colors and mustard yellows. I love how the word “GO” is accidentally front and center. It feels intentional and like a sign.
painting. Virginia plans to show more of the brush strokes, the tiny paintings that contribute to the maps, the borders and the visual representation you see. We have shown snippets of this before, but even just the set up, the time it takes and the strokes are worth uncovering to see what it takes to bring this to life.
